“Illuminating Wakefulness” is a Mahamudra teaching based on the commentary from the treasure teaching of Guru Rinpoche, as revealed and explained by Chogyur Dechen Lingpa. In this text, Chogyur Dechen Lingpa elucidates the essential meaning of the completion stage of Mahamudra, which is the third stage of Dechen Gyalpo from the cycle of Tukdrub Barche Kunsel (The Realization of the Guru’s Heart: Dispeller of All Obstacles).
This will be Phakchok Rinpoche’s first time teaching this profound text during his global teaching tours, and it will be offered exclusively in Taiwan. Mahamudra encourages us to adopt a fresh perspective on the world. It is a meditation tradition within Tantric Buddhism that reveals the nature of awareness, elevating our ordinary perception to the realm of the sacred.
Rinpoche invites us to return to the root source of Guru Rinpoche’s teachings on Mahamudra and will provide an in-depth explanation to illuminate the text. The cycle of the Realization of the Guru’s Heart: Dispeller of All Obstacles consists of four stages:
- The development stage
- The completion stage with attributes
- The completion stage beyond attributes
- The supreme, ultimate completion stage
Illuminating Wakefulness belongs to the third stage, the completion phase of Mahamudra, which transcends the characteristics of the development stage. This phase includes four essential points:
- Establishing the ultimate view
- Experience through meditation
- Enhance experience with conduct
- Achieve fruition
In addition to the teachings, Rinpoche will guide us in Mahamudra meditation. This is a rare opportunity to engage in practice that allows us to experience the mind’s natural vastness, emptiness, and luminosity.
